Love

Love is one of the words that we probably all have some variations in our personal definitions.  We know when we feel love and the joy that it brings to our lives.  Lets take a look at some Bible verses on love.

Mark 12:31

The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."

Luke 6:35

But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.

Romans 13:10

Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

1 Corinthians 13:13

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Ephesians 4:2

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

Alright lets take a look at just the few verses above on love.  We learn very quickly that we are to love others such as our neighbors and even our enemies.  That's not an easy thing to do but God gives us directions in how we are to love others.  In Romans 13:10 it says love does no harm to it's neighbor and in 1 Corinthians(13) basically the chapter what love is and how great love is.  To finish up we are to bear with one another in love.  I read that in my head to say to overlook flaws in love.  My opinion and not a fact.

So as you get up today I ask you...are you loving as God has commanded us to love?  Are you struggling to show love to someone who doesn't treat you that well?  Pray to God and ask Him for strength.  Ask God how you can show love to the people in your life that aren't so easy to love.  Because without love we are really missing the point in our faith.

Worrying

Worry is something most of us do from time to time but what does it mean?  Worry is defined in the NIV Bible as to feel anxious or uneasy.  It's easy to picture someone pacing or not being able to sit still.  You just can't get comfortable.  What do you worry about?  What does worry say about our faith?  Lets take a look at the subject of worry.

Matthew 6:25-34

New International Version (NIV)

Do Not Worry

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

In this passage we can clearly see that Jesus is telling us how much we are worth.  He compares us to birds?  Our worth is more than those.  He then goes on to question how much faith can we have if we worry about things such as clothes, food, and drinks.  We learn that non believers run after such things but we being believers should not worry but seek God and these things will be given to us.

It sounds so easy but often we will go and complain to a friend, coworker, family member about our fears of having enough.  It's our job to seek God and trust Him, to have faith He will provide.  In the Concise Bible Commentary by Don Fleming it says Believers should trust in God and put the interests of His kingdom first.  They are under His rule and they should trust that as day to day difficulties arise, He will provide the answer.  Let's look at some other verses.

Luke 12:24-34

New International Version (NIV)
24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life[a]? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
27 “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! 29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
32 “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

John 14:27

New International Version (NIV)
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Proverbs 12:25

New International Version (NIV)
25 Anxiety weighs down the heart,
but a kind word cheers it up.

Proverbs 28:26
Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.

We see in the verses above that once again we are worth much to God and two we are told that worrying can not add a single hour to our lives.  Worrying/Stress leaves us feeling fatigued and often frustrated because we are trying to figure everything out on our own.  In other words to do things under our own power instead of trusting God.

In John we see that peace God gives us.  He tells us to not be troubled or afraid.  Are you able to do this in your everyday life or are you left with your heart pounding in your chest at the end of the day unable to sleep.  Lets see if we can dig a little deeper about why we worry.

Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

Our fears come from not trusting God and trying to figure things out on our own.  We drive ourselves crazy with questions like what if?  why?  how?  when?  It's in those moments we are trusting ourselves to make sense of things we aren't meant to make sense of.  We are putting strain and stress on our minds and bodies because we are not resting, trusting and praying.  So what can we do?

 Psalm 55:22
New International Version (NIV)
22 Cast your cares on the Lord
    and he will sustain you;
he will never let
    the righteous be shaken.

 Philippians 4:6-7
New International Version (NIV)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

To sum things up we are to cast our cares, worries, fears, anxieties on God in every situation.  We are to pray and thank Him.  Our minds should be at peace trusting God and guarding our hearts so that worry doesn't return to our hearts.  We have to believe that He knows what He is doing and that He knows best.  That is faith!  It is essential to our walks and belief in God.   So I leave you with one last verse to think about before you turn to worry.

Philippians 4:8 ESV /

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Good Start

He's the Pen, I'm the Paper is off to a good start. Sales have been good so far. The main purpose for this book is to glorify God. Another is to make a career out of this honoring God throughout the entire career.
Luke 12:48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
